The piece „queerPassion“, for choir, soloists and orchestra, re-contextualises a well-known work from the classical repertoire: Thomas Höft has rethought the "St John Passion" BWV 245 by Johann Sebastian Bach giving it a new libretto, in which 4 stories of the suffering of discriminated and murdered queer people take centre stage while Bach's music remains completely untouched.
The structure of the piece enables amateurs to work as a choir closely together with professional musicians and soloists and engage in workshops about authentic interpretation, musical expression, queer history, and personal engagement.
